JUMP MISSION STATEMENT

JUMP (Joint Urban Ministries in Praise) is a fresh new hip hop worship experience designed to bring people of all backgrounds together to be in community and worship God. JUMP is designed to:

EMPOWER urban youth by naming and developing gifts of the spirit to become leaders.
CONNECT people in an environment of reconciliation where All Are Welcome.
INSPIRE a gathered community through worship which engages mind, body, and soul.
EXPAND worshippers experience by building on Christian tradition in the contemporary context of hip hop liturgy.

History of JUMP:
In 2001, a group of urban youth workers felt as though their churches weren’t doing enough to affirm urban youth culture and they wanted to change that. They commissioned hip hop performer Agape (David Scherer) to create a worship experience that would be meaningful to their youth. Agape created a hip hop liturgy called JUMP (“Joint Urban Ministries in Praise”) which took the traditional elements of worship and translated them into the language of hip hop culture. In addition to the service, Agape felt like he needed to empower the youth to be able to lead the service. In 2005, Agape started “JUMP Tuesdays” which helped youth discover their gifts in hip hop as well as giving them leadership and discipleship tools. The youth had the chance to lead a JUMP service in San Antonio at the Multicultural Youth Leadership Event and have been performing regionally and nationally ever since.
